Signs of Faith

Lately I’ve been emailed a flurry of “funny church signs”. And then our MGLC custodian, Bruce Rosand, showed a hilarious video at our staff meeting, featuring Pastor Steve Molin of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Stillwater. People actually change their driving routes to catch the weekly sign messages he posts outside this church, messages that communicate Our Savior’s is a joyful place, and faith in Christ is the reason.

We don’t currently have a church sign to display messages: we do have a team researching that possibility.  But there are ways that as a congregation we declare our faith in Jesus Christ, and how He makes us new and joyful people.  Our weekly Ministry Notes are filled with service and outreach opportunities. Our faith put into action carries the message of Christ’s love.

How about as individuals: what signs of faith do we display?

We don’t walk around wearing sandwich boards with messages communicating our beliefs. That’s an interesting thought, isn’t it? Let’s say we each decided to create our own sandwich board sign, and take a walk along our neighborhood street, or in the cafeteria where we work, or standing up (because we couldn’t sit down wearing a sign) on the bus we ride home. We’ve probably seen downtown street corner evangelists with signs. This would not be a commonplace sight in Maple Grove.
If we were brave enough to create a sandwich board and go walking around with a message for others, what would we write? What would we say?

Would our message make a personal statement about how God is present in our life? Would we appeal directly to those we want to reach?

We do bear a sign, the sign of the cross made on our foreheads when we were baptized.

It’s God’s sign, the sign of His love for us.

Please email me if you create your personal sign message at which reminds me of a church sign I saw this week:
