“In good times and bad, we need God and we need each other.” Pastor, I need help A couple is having trouble in their marriage: a single parent struggles to raise a child alone; someone is unhappy in a job and wants to explore another calling; a person is struggling with the issue of internet pornography; a financial crisis hits a family in a significant way. “Pastor, I need help.” These words have come my way many times over the years. As often as I’ve heard these words, I know there are many others who need help but have not found a way to speak them. Uttering the words “I need help” is often the first step needed. So why is it so difficult to speak them? Maybe we are ashamed or think that we should be able to handle it on our own. We see other people managing their life and solving their problems so we figure we should as well. Since arriving here at MGLC four years ago, I’ve noticed that many people in this area seem reluctant to admit any kind of brokenness or difficulties in life. Many people appear as if they have it all together. What about you? As a church during worship, we regularly come before God to honor and praise Him. We pray and confess and turn to our Lord. We admit that we are utterly dependent on God for everything. When things are falling apart in our lives, we know we need the Lord. And, we need each other as well. We have many caring and compassionate people who serve in a variety of ministries at MGLC. We have a wonderful Caring Ministries Committee headed by Mary Monge and Pastor Chiles. Befrienders, Military Support, and Prayer Team are just a few of the Caring Ministries. The Befrienders Ministry provides a listening and supportive presence to those who are hurting in some way. These trained volunteers are matched with those of us who have uttered the words “I need help.” If you would like to explore the possibility serving as a Befriender and getting lined up with a Befriender just ask Pastor Chiles, Kristine Flett, or Tom Kovar. Caring Ministries is committed to providing care and support for our congregation: supporting military families or personnel who are returning from Iraq, programs for a healthy lifestyle, prayer needs, or the listening support of a Befriender. Caring Ministries is a place of compassion and care for those who say“I need help.” You may also contact me or Pastor Chris directly. We are never too busy to talk with you and help you connect with the support needed no matter what issue you may face. As a community of faith in Christ I pray that our Lord will provide all the support, healing and care we might need to stay healthy and strong.
