Hope for the FutureOn Easter morning the women walked to the tomb where Jesus was left, their hearts heavy with grief. Questions and fears crowded their minds. How could their friend and Messiah, Jesus, leave them? What would the future bring? Reflecting on the last ten years, MGLC has walked a rather wild journey with many events. The Fernbrook property was purchased and building plans were in place, we’ve had three capital fund appeals, the attempted sale of present facility, the building plans for a sanctuary and renovation, and the selling of the Fernbrook property. Perhaps we’re like the women walking to the tomb with questions and fears weighing on our minds. For some it has been a tiring journey, wondering if the Fernbrook property will sell and if we’ll build our much-needed sanctuary. Others remain hope-filled that this will come to pass. To help us move ahead in the mission we believe God has called us to, our Council established a strategic plan. It is a plan of resurrection amongst us; an ambitious plan to grow our weekly worship attendance to 2,000 people per week and that every member will be serving outside the walls of our congregation. This plan is both exciting and challenging for each of us. Right now we’re focusing on two priorities to help us get there. Our first priority is revitalizing and growing our worship life and the second is increasing small group ministries and involvement. A creative worship team is partnering with our worship committee and the small group steering team is developing more small group opportunities. The finances needed to carry out this strategic plan are a challenge and provide a great opportunity for each of us to pray for and encourage our Council leadership and staff to keep a steady course and stay focused on the strategic plan and our vision for the future. The women at the tomb arrived grief stricken and returned to the disciples with great joy; for they learned that the story didn’t end at the cross. Jesus is risen! He is risen indeed! If God can raise Jesus from the dead, He can help us work together toward accomplishing His will for us that more and more people will be reached with the good news of Jesus Christ. Pastor Durk Peterson P.S. Please let me know if you have suggestions and would like to get more involved in building up the body of Christ here at MGLC. |
