Faith Out Loud

A Member’s Reflection on “Faith Out Loud: Talking About What Matters Most” Adult Education Session

Faith Out Loud: Talking About What Matters Most began Sunday, June 8. Maybe a summary of our lively discussion at the first session will entice you to check it out. Each session begins with video interviews of people who are grappling with how to share their faith and putting it into clear and authentic words.

How do we softly and gently let others know that we are a Christian in a society with a philosophy of “live and let live”? People might know that I am a Christian, but they don’t know why I live that way. One participant said, “I think we need to communicate with love and humility”. Another person said that he could use coffee hour to talk about what God has done in his life that week instead of making small talk. A simple, “I pray that you...” is another way to get a conversation started. As Lutherans, we are not used to sharing our faith story, and we are often afraid to appear pushy or preachy. However, we might just be planting a seed that will grow into a strong faith eventually. One member noted that it is easier to share his faith with strangers than it is with people he knows who are not believers.

Sessions like this make us aware and allow us to practice in our MGLC community first. A person sharing their faith does inspire us to do the same. To get us started, as a group, we shared a gratitude list of what we thank God for in our lives. Join us for more compelling conversation on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. more...
