Donations
Approximately 1,600 pounds of donated items were hand carried into our partner congregation, Light & Life church and school in Villa Esfuerzo, Dominican Republic in August 2007.
This includes 290 pairs of jeans for the school kids (supported in part by a $285 matching grant from Thrivent Financial), school supplies, 130 pounds ($2,200) of donated medical supplies and prescription medications, hygiene kits, team t-shirts, hospital scrubs, 5,000 plastic bags for the women’s ministry, a sewing machine, construction supplies, Kid’s Club and Women’s Ministry crafts, playground equipment and suitcases to carry it all in.
Thank you to everyone who contributed time, money and expertise to make this happen and to those who supported the mission team and the students at Light and Life school with sponsorships and prayers. Well done good and faithful servants!
- School supplies: crayons, colored pencils, regular pencils, pens, colored markers, erasers, bottle glue (no glue sticks - they melt!), rulers, stickers (that a teacher might pass out for good work), construction paper, steno pads (wire bound at top), regular 1 subject wide-ruled (wire bound at side), kids scissors. Wooden alphabet and number puzzles
- Alphabet tiles in Spanish for after school program
- Clothes (children sizes). Jeans and summer shirts
- Children shoes and flip-flops
- Small manipulative toys to play in a classroom setting: Duplos, Legos, Brio
- Grade school books in Spanish
- Laptop computers in working condition
- Play equipment: basketballs, footballs, jump ropes, balloons, bubbles, baseballs, bats
- Beanie Babies
- Non-perishable foodstuffs: energy bars / breakfast bars
- Prescription supplies: if you know a doctor or pharmacy that can donate, we can make the connection with a Dominican doctor
- Hygiene items
- Medical supplies: (adult and child) Aspirin, Tylenol, band-aids
- Dental/hygiene: Toothpaste, toothbrushes
- Hand towels, dishrags, soap, shampoo
- Worker's gloves to mix cement
