Loaves and Fishes
Serving Hot Meals and Smiles
Four times a year Maple Grove Lutheran Church members get together to provide hot meals for residents of the River of Life Lutheran Church neighborhood in North Minneapolis. You are welcome to join us in this wonderful service event, experienced or not, you can help with shopping, cooking, setup, serving, and cleanup. Loaves and Fishes happens on the fifth Wednesday of months that have five Wednesdays.
Maple Grove Lutheran Church has been serving Loaves and Fishes for 15 years at River of Life Lutheran Church located at 2200 Freemont Avenue (Hwy 81 to Emerson, left, then left on 22nd). The day begins with shopping: 400 pieces of chicken, eighteen loaves of bread, and more.
The menu has become a tradition:
Baked seasoned chicken legs and thighs
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Mixed vegetables
Bread and butter
Bananas
Oreo cookies
Milk
Servers arrive at 5:15 p.m. Then the doors open to serve the guests at 5:30 p.m. Two hundred people are served, many are children. Afterward, the servers and cooks eat and clean up the dining room and kitchen by about 7:30 p.m. Interested? If you are interested in volunteering—shopping, cooking, serving and cleaning, email Curt.
