Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation

Building a Tradition of Christian Giving

Our Mission
To financially assist and empower our congregation, and to serve our community in the spirit of Christian giving.

What is the Foundation?
The Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation is a separately incorporated non-profit organization, accepting gifts to be invested and held in perpetuity.  The investment goals of the Foundation are designed to provide on-going financial resources.

Your gift will continue to work for generations to come.

What are the benefits of giving to the Foundation?

  • Your gift remains as principle in the Foundation.

  • The income from your gift continues to support ministry.

  • Your gift is tax deductible.

How is the Income Distributed?
The Board of Trustees overseeing the operations of the Foundation will determine annual distribution of income according to the following guidelines:

  • Minimum 25% of the annual distribution will be designated to each of the following 3 areas of the congregation’s ministry:

    1. In-reach: enhancing the ministry within our congregation (i.e. worship or education enhancements).

    2. Outreach into the community (i.e. family crisis support, ministry partnerships).

    3. Domestic and world-wide missions (i.e. Dominican Republic & Youth mission trips, international child sponsorship, missionary support).

  • Disbursements shall not be made for regular church operating expenses or on-going benevolence responsibilities of the congregation.

How can I give to the Foundation?

Gifts can be made in a variety of forms.  Here are common forms (described in more detail in link):

Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so contributions made to the Foundation are tax-deductible.  You can contact a board member listed below to make a gift or arrange a confidential meeting to discuss your gifting options. Download the contribution form.

These mechanisms for giving are briefly described below:

Funeral Memorial
Gifts to the Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation can provide a lasting memorial for loved ones who are no longer with us.  The income generated from these gifts will continue to serve the church and community for generations to come.

Outright Gift
Perhaps the easiest way to invest in the church's future is through an outright gift to the Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation. You can give cash appreciated securities, shares of mutual funds, gifts of real estate or personal property. Our brokerage firm's account manager, or your financial advisor, can help you with the transfer of gifts like these.

Bequest in Your Will
A bequest (or codicil) in your will allows you to provide future funds that are vital to the long-term of the Foundation. Some of the most popular methods for you to consider:

  • A percentage of your estate
  • A specific dollar amount
  • A personal property (real estate, artwork, collectibles)

Beneficiary Designation
You may have a variety of assets for which you can name a charitable organization as your beneficiary? By so doing, your gift bypasses probate and goes directly to support the cause you select. You could name the Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation as your full or partial beneficiary in:

  • An old insurance policy you no longer need
  • Your retirement plan
  • Your securities or mutual fund account

Charitable Gift Annuity
This is an excellent way to make a modest commitment to Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation. It is a gift that can be put to work now for your own benefit while providing future financial support for the church. With a minimum gift of $10,000 or more to set up a Charitable Gift Annuity, you can receive three major benefits:

  • In exchange for the gift, the organization agrees to pay you - and possibly another person - a fixed amount every year for the rest of your lives.
  • This gift gives you a charitable income tax deduction for a significant portion of the contribution.
  • You will be contributing to the long term future of your church home.

Charitable Trusts
Using a 'funding bucket' called a charitable trust, you can transfer cash, stocks, bonds, mutual funds or real estate to create income for yourself, or to pass an asset to heirs. There are two ways to create Charitable Trusts:

Charitable Remainder Trust
When you put your assets into a charitable 'trust bucket', you will receive the following benefits:

  • A charitable income tax deduction for a significant portion of your gift each year
  • A gift of the remainder of the asset that will revert to the Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation at the end of the trust.

Charitable Lead Trust
This trust arrangement is essentially the opposite of the Charitable Remainder Trust. You create a trust that pays income to Maple Grove Lutheran Foundation for a period of years. Then the asset or assets pass to your heirs. It is an excellent way to support the mission of the church now and pass along an asset (such as a family business) to your heirs at a later date.

Gift of Your Home (Life Estate Contract)
A gift of your home as a Retained Life Estate gives you the opportunity to live in your home for the rest of your life and at the same time receive a charitable tax deduction for making a gift of your home to the church endowment fund. You can even give your second home or vacation property while continuing to use it yourself.

Deferred Gift Annuity
Similar to a standard Charitable Gift Annuity, a Deferred Gift Annuity is a way to make a current gift and delay payment to you until you need the income. With a commitment of at least $10,000, you can receive the above benefits, plus:

  • Create an excellent source of retirement income, and have the ability to delay payments until your retirement date, or
  • Use a Deferred Gift Annuity as a Tuition Annuity Plan, deferring the payments until your child or grandchild needs the income for their college education.
