April 2007
The council meet on Thursday, April 12.
Pastor Chris opened with devotion and Jim Vaughn lead the opening prayer.
Guest Forum - One guest was present and brought up questions about the Personnel Committee, Worship Services and the New Building. The council addressed each of these areas.
Suzanne Wimer, Worship Committee Chair highlighted activity by her committee. The team is really starting to come together. They are handling some special projects like weddings at our church and all the variables that involves. Also, seasonal worship teams are another special project and encouraging people to plug in and be a part. Updating their web page, hymnals, and multimedia options are also areas they are working on.
Pastor Chris shared her report. Lent services went very well, a lot of time and effort went into the skits and a lot of information was shared. Easter was wonderful! Meeting with small groups about Centered Life, Military Support Team, Prayer Team and Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Financial report was reviewed - Steve Wagner was busy with his day job, so we had to decipher the numbers for ourselves.
Rich Moulton gave an update on the Nominating Committee. All candidates are in place and will be voted on at the Congregational Meeting, May 6 at Noon. Vice President - Deb Ellefson, Treasurer - Steve Wagner has agreed to extend his term one more year, Secretary - Sue Raph, and Council At Large - Mike Benson. Committee Chair nominees are Mary Monge - agreeing to serve another term as Caring Ministries Chair, Terry Henderson - Operations Chair (he had been appointed by council mid-year) and Candy Burns-Anderson - Discipleship Chair (she had also been appointed by council mid-year). Council motioned, seconded and approved all nominees.
Vision Team Update - the majority of the May council meeting will be this topic. The vision team has a recommendation for a statement and some initiatives to implement this vision.
Facilities - Teri Johnson shared that they are ready to start June 15 if it’s possible. The next step is to review final documents, look at bids and a congregational vote.
Steering Committee - Greg Goeke and Chad Thomas advised the earliest we would see the money from the sale of the land is 90 days from March 28. There are some contingencies in place and timelines that need to be met. The earliest we would close would be end of June.
Everyone agreed that we couldn’t start the new building without the land sale money in the bank. We cannot do a bridge loan. Contractor wants to bid when he knows we have closed. If all goes well, we could probably start August 1 or September 1. Keep this process in your prayers - we have a signed purchase agreement, but it’s not a completely done deal yet.
We will be communicating with the congregation that we need everyone’s help with the building project. If you haven’t pledge, please pledge. If you have pledged, can you give more now or give your current pledge up front now. The bank will want to see that we have strong, solid support for this project.
Discussed details for the Congregational Meeting to be held on Sunday, May 6 at noon.
Meeting closed at 8:55 p. m. with the Lord’s Prayer.
